Nigerian Afrobeats singer-songwriter Chemmie is new in the industry but she is convinced that she has what it takes to storm the music industry in a few years. One of her greatest goals is to perform at the 02 Arena.
Chemmie took music seriously because of the push she received from friends who listen to her freestyling and her greatest attribute is always trying to put out content people can easily vibe and relate with. Her previous songs such as Time, Balance It among others are attestations to the fact that she is on the right path.
The developing act, in an interview with Lambo Xtra, takes us through her musical journey, production process, and her interest in working with Asa, Davido, and Adekunle Gold, among others.
I’m doing great.
My current challenge is trying to reach a wider audience which I see as a goal I’m going to achieve soon. And my greatest attribute is always trying to put out content people can easily vibe and relate to which is why I make my lyrics as comprehensive as it can get in English, Yoruba, and Pidgin.
That was in secondary school when I started writing songs and my then friends liked it and always wanted me to do more. I would say they made me push into doing music officially. I’ve always had a passion for music but I was too shy to admit it back then.
My friends used to call me Chemistry because my real name is Kemi and some of them would spell my name like they were trying to spell chemistry so I decided to use that and made some tweaking by adding an extra M.
When I wanted to make balance it, I spoke to DJ Gmoney who linked me up with Rumble beat who is the producer behind the beat-making. We linked up and I went to his studio and I told him to make me an Amapiano beat which he did. So I listened to the beat and created magic and right there we made “Balance It“.
The most memorable experience was the first time I heard my song on KraksTV. I was shocked because I didn’t see it coming. I would be dropping an EP filled with amazing songs soon and I would love people to watch out and be part of it.
