Puma Sports x JD Sports have announced Nigerian Afropop Star, Wizkid as its latest ambassador ahead of its campaign to relaunch the Puma Suede Classics collection.
The Sports label from Germany first launched the collection as far back as 1968, automatically becoming a best-seller as it changed the street-style game.
Ayo Balogun, stage name Wizkid, is one of the biggest Afropop stars in Africa. He’s come a long way from Ojuelegba Lagos to selling out arenas such as O2 and walking the fashion runway in Milan. He recently postponed the release of his new album, Made in Lagos, due to the police brutality peaceful protests, #EndSARS, going on in Nigeria. He has been one of the very vocal celebrities in the protest and also championed a protest in London.
Wizkid previously partnered with Nike Sports before joining Puma this year with the Starboy x Puma Merchandise for his upcoming Made in Lagos Album
It would be exciting to see how this business decision to bank on Wizkid’s influence will improve the sales of the relaunched Puma Suede classics.
