How a viral debut album shapes our cognizance of this artist.
What happens when an artist debut album goes viral? Or however, how does it shape the course of their career? If they’re not fated to be a one-hit wonder—a term quickly losing its meaning in the age of sundry streaming services—then does this type of bold introduction forever influence the way listeners consume their music?
There aren’t any easy answers to these questions, but it’s worth looking at the proliferate career of Spiritual Beatz Entertainment artist Rozey to see what those perhaps complicated answers might possibly be. She achieved viral success with “Enthroned,” that album you’ve probably heard some of the singles in Christ Embassy Churches, music concerts and on that Radio or TV stations.
When Soltesh Iyere recently asked Rozey if she could go back and change anything about her journey into the public eye, she had a clear answer: she wouldn’t. “I wouldn’t really change anything, I’d just speed some things up,” she said. According to Rozey, everything is as it was meant to be.
This album is your first time working fully in a studio and with a producer. What was that like?
This is not my first time working fully in a studio, but it is my first album. It was a learning experience but I enjoyed every minute of it.
With those major changes, the album’s sound is bigger and more varied than much of your previous output. Did that affect the writing process?
It isn’t much different from my previous output, i maintained my trademark Rozey sound. The writing process was different because I’ve grown as a person, in my personal life and relationship with GOD… everyday i get to experience his love more and that helped me.
When you look back on this album, how will you able to tell it had the impact you wanted it to have?
Well I get lots of feedback from fans and fellow believers on social media.. Plus at public programs I see the reaction to the music…the final rating of impact is if I feel I did my best and can change one mind to be inspired, to become saved, and to become a better person for the body of Christ.
Do you feel differently about this album than your previous bodies of work?
Yes of course, every new song is an increase in experience, and development. There are some songs that will forever be special to you the artist or listener no matter how old it may be. The album is special cuz I showed an eclectic range of genres on it. I have some Christian Pop, some ragga, some soft rock, standard gospel and some indigenous sounds.
So much of your musical and personal growth can be witnessed in real-time online and even offline, but did you ever think about taking down some of your earlier work now that you’re in a different place as a musician?
I’m still Rozey, i have not changed who I am, i’ve just developed, grown and still honing my gift, gone further than where I began but still know I have further to go. No I don’t want to take my earlier work down, instead I’ll add to it as I go along.
You’re active on social media platforms in ways that other artists aren’t necessarily. How has that helped you connect with your fans?
Im not that active, I actually believe i need to improve on that part of my persona, my fans get to see what I’m doing and my development. Ill start posting pics of me from way back when I was a teenager, just realizing I could sing a little… Lol
