Off his latest “After Hours” album, The Weeknd unleashes new video for “Save Your Tears.” The Save Your Tears video opens with The Weeknd, 30, showing off the prosthetics on stage as he sings for a crowd. His band onstage all have bedazzled masks of their face as he dances around the venue and drinking the audience’s drinks. The crowd is shown – who are all wearing masks as well and taking all his actions without moving – including him spraying champagne on them.
The singer’s latest visual, directed by Cliqua, continues the storyline from previous After Hours videos.
Sometime last year when Grammy nominations were announced in November, it was revealed that the Weeknd wasn’t nominated for any awards. The singer called the Grammys “corrupt” and claimed that he was offered the opportunity to perform at the show. This underlined video is a continuation to the progressive storyline which started off with the “Heartless” video, here, the Weeknd trips and parties in Vegas. He then gets bloodied-up in the “Blinding Lights” visual. By “In Your Eyes,” he’s decapitated. But in “Too Late,” his head gets attached to another guy’s body, and he’s reanimated. And in recent public performances, the Weeknd’s face was covered in bandages. Now, the “Save Your Tears” video reveals the results of some reconstructive surgery. It’s been a rather interesting story to follow up on.
The video is said to be controversial as it features a model who doesn’t only look like the young singer but is also dressed in like fashion as her.
Selena and The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, split in September 2017 after a nearly 10-month whirlwind romance. He first wrote about their relationship in his EP My Dear Melancholy, which was released in 2018. He dated Bella Hadid prior to Selena but the lyrics of My Dear Melancholy songs appear to point at Selena; Bella and Abel dated from September 2015 and split in November 2016 and then they reunited April 2018 and reportedly split August 2019. The Weeknd’s songs from “After Hours” includes many references to Bella and Selena.
