UK grime luminary Skepta, known for his accidental cover art controversy with “Gas Me Up (Diligent),” makes a triumphant return with “Tony Montana,” a single off his highly anticipated album “Knife And Fork.” Collaborating with the colorful Nigerian artist Portable, this track emerges as a celebration of cultural diversity and musical innovation.
Skepta’s roots trace back to Nigeria, with both of his parents being Nigerian immigrants. In “Tony Montana,” this heritage takes center stage, as the track pulsates with the infectious beats of Afrobeats. Unlike Skepta’s signature adrenaline-charged grime hits, “Tony Montana” takes a smoother, winding approach, showcasing the artist’s versatility.
The production, skillfully handled by London-based beatmaker Jae5, seamlessly blends UK rap and Afrobeats sounds. Jae5, known for collaborations with notable artists like Dave, Burna Boy, and J Hus, adds his distinctive touch to “Tony Montana,” creating a musical tapestry that transcends genres.
Directed by Capone, the “Tony Montana” music video exudes sophistication, providing a visually stunning backdrop to the vibrant collaboration between Skepta and Portable. Skepta’s journey, marked by a previous artistic hiccup, seems to find redemption in the seamless blend of grime and Afrobeats, creating an exciting anticipation for the upcoming album.
Beyond the music, Skepta’s personal journey, rooted in his Nigerian heritage, adds a layer of depth to “Tony Montana.” His exploration and celebration of diverse sounds not only reflect his musical evolution but also pay homage to his cultural background.
Portable, the rainbow-haired Nigerian singer joining forces with Skepta, emerges as a symbol of resilience and success against all odds. His ascent in the music industry is described as nothing short of a product of the Grace of God, defying challenges and obstacles to carve a niche for himself.
“Tony Montana” stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, cultural fusion, and the unwavering spirit of artists like Skepta and Portable. As they paint a vivid sonic picture, fans eagerly anticipate the release of “Knife And Fork,” expecting an album that will further solidify Skepta’s status as a pioneering force in the global music scene.
