Meet Kechi Okwuchi who was one of the only two survivors in the Sosoliso plane crash which occurred in the year 2005 on the 10th of December. Born and raised in Nigeria, singing was always an important pastime in Kechi’s life. That pastime turned to therapy after a fateful day in 2005. Kechi, along with 60 of her fellow classmates from Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja, Nigeria, were traveling on Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145, when something went terribly wrong:
The plane, carrying 109 people, had slammed into the ground and burst into flames. Kechi spent the next seven months in the hospital with a majority of that time in intensive care and has endured more than 100 surgeries. She credits her faith, family, friends, and singing for keeping her going.
Almost 15 years later, Kechi seems to have it all together, sustained and energized by her music, in the same vein inspiring others with her soothing and emotional words born out of a deep understanding of life. Unbeknownst to her, a friend signed her up to audition for the 2017 season of America’s Got Talent. She went on and made it to the finals after wowing the judges in her audition with Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”.
The “America’s Got Talent” alum is featured on “Shake My Beauty” and it’s truly beautiful to watch. In the eight-minute video feature, Kechi shares her story from growing up in Lagos to early perceptions of her beauty and her life now. One thing Kechi stands grateful for is her singing voice which took a major positive turn after the plane crash.
Kechi’s story is that of positivity, inspiration and faith. Watch her inspiring video below
