BROOKLYN, NY — Jamaican-American recording artist, Shola Adisa-Farrar returns to the scene
with “Lately,” a soothing, sexy R&B track about the exciting dance of togetherness and
separation that lovers experience from physical and/or emotional distance.
Grammy-nominated and award-winning producer Paris LaMont brings out Shola’s soulful side
with underlying eccentricities reminiscent of old school hip-hop. He has worked with Protoje, Lila
Iké and Assassin, to name a few, and toured internationally as a keyboardist and background
vocalist for Protoje’s band, InDiggNation (RCA / 6ix Course). The main riffs of “Lately” were
inspired by sounds on Protoje’s “Bout Noon.” While on tour, Paris sent Shola the track and she
immediately loved the vibe of it. Eventually, when the two were both in Jamaica, they
decided to work on the song together, and during a three day residency, “Lately” was born.
“Lately” is the first single off of an upcoming collaborative EP.
Shola’s debut project Lost Myself (Hot Casa Records, 2016), a collaboration with French Jazz
pianist Florian Pellissier, blends New York’s hard-bop aesthetics with reggae-inspired elements
and modern jazz for a fresh spin on classics and original compositions. The lead single from the
album “Evolution” has been played on international airwaves, most notably by Gilles Peterson
(BBC Music Radio, London) and was hand-selected by renowned director Spike Lee for
inclusion on the first season of his Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It.
NBC News describes Shola as an Artist who “traverses cultures with a special kind of versatility
that comes from being a citizen of the world” Born in Oakland, California, Shola began singing
at the age of eight, later went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Music in New York and has
since traveled the world as a singer and Music Ambassador for the U.S. Embassy. Shola has
headlined concerts in fifteen countries across Africa, Asia, Europe and America and splits her
time between Paris and New York.
In preparation for her sophomore project, Shola releases “Lately” as the perfect track for the
winter season. The song, distributed by Wakeupstar and reaching streaming platforms at
midnight on Friday, December 18th, will make listeners feel turned on, relaxed and ready to get
close to somebody (or themselves).
