Here’s a song from two Nigerians in the diaspora, Rotimi and Wale. In My Bed is the first record off Rotimi’s EP, The Beauty Of Becoming (TBOB). The record was produced by Harmoney Samuels.
The song started with a sample of Mario Winans’s ‘I Don’t Wanna Know,’ (2004) which was actually a sample of Enya’s ‘Boadicea’ (1987). Then followed by the catchy hook that Rotimi sang in the most sensual way possible. Immediately after the hook, Wale came in with his sensual poetry lyrics with that ‘Diced Pineapple’ but with the rhythm of an African rapper.
Rotimi definitely knows how to blend African rhythm with the western sound while using an African accent. This unique style is working for him.
The Nigerian-American singer saw the need to release an animated video for this piece. The corona virus has halted basic activities and so the singer took a new creative approach with his latest music video, “In My Bed” featuring Wale. This was also a great job opportunity for 37 animators from 24 cities in 5 different continents to create the visuals for this single.
“This record has been really special to me. I remember when Harmony Samuels called me and told me he had a crazy idea, I heard it and flew to LA to record it. We wanted a feature and thinking of who would be a great fit I thought of my brother Wale. We’ve been friends for sometime now and I thought this would be amazing for our first collaboration,” he said.
Wale said about his collab with the Power actor. “I’m not surprised at the success we’re starting to see on it, just heard the song a ton while I was back in DC.”
