Four years ago, Peruzzi officially gained recognition in the industry with the release of his hit single ‘For Your Pocket’, a song that gained wide recognition and appreciation for its relatable lyrics. He was signed with Golden Boy Records until 2018 when he joined Davido’s DMW family. While his talent was slowly being recognized, his rise to prominence and his induction into mainstream music was official with his feature on 2Baba’s hit 2018 single ‘Amaka’ and Duncan Mighty’s ‘Aza’. He also featured in various singles with other artists, released his own and ghostwrote music for his colleagues in the industry. He released his debut EP ‘Heartwork’ in 2018 under The Plug Entertainment and freshman album “Huncho Vibez” in 2019. He has built a reputation in the industry as a talented artist, an incredible songwriter, a skit maker, and an all-around nice guy.
Towards the end of 2020, Peruzzi announced the release date for his sophomore album; Rum and Boogie. Unfortunately, his fans, who had begun anticipating the album, were sorely disappointed when he postponed the release date. Months later, after a long wait, Peruzzi fondly referred to as Huncho, released the 20-track album on the 9th of April at midnight. Although it has been barely two weeks, Rum and Boogie has not only become a fan favourite but steadily and successfully climbed the music charts to the very top, reaching the number 1 spot on the Apple Music Nigeria Chart in only a few days.
Rum and Boogie is as incredible as expected. Peruzzi featured the vocals of various superstars such as Davido, Tiwa Savage, Fireboy, Phyno, and Don Jazzy in a few tracks and the aid of hitmaking producers like; Speroachbeats, Rexxie, Clemzy, and a few others. The album is split into two equal but conjoined parts; Rum and Boogie, which is in reference to its name. He not only showcased the level of growth he had undergone in it, but he also drew inspiration from not just the featured artists, but also various iconic artists; 2Baba’s can be heard in ‘God forbid‘.
Peruzzi has come a long way in the industry, and his understanding of the game has helped push him to greater heights. His musical style is not only unique but has also evolved in time, and evolution can be heard in this body of work, Rum and Boogie.
