Empawa boss, Mr Eazi has teamed up with heavyweights in his new melodic tune entitled “Oh My Gawd”. The track, a fusion of dancehall, Afrobeats and EDM sounds which takes lyrical inspiration from reggae classics by Black Uhuru and Baby Cham, is the first single from Mr Eazi’s “Something Else” EP scheduled for October.
The track embraces the contribution of international acts such as highly revered Major Lazer, Nicki Minaj, and K4mo. The track boasts of a booming groove of clanging percussion and thick bass swells, all of it topped with pulsing synths that give the song a grimy edge. While Major Lazer are ramping up to the release of their fourth LP, Lazerism; Mr Eazi had also found himself entangled with several projects. He just wrapped off the release of his EP “I No Go Give Up On You.”
The song which was accompanied by a rather twerk-heavy video had the empawa boss being flustered with the sudden positive turn out of things. “This record was really fun to make,” the Nigerian superstar Mr Eazi says, “and it’s crazy how it went from hearing a K4mo intro in the studio with Fred Again (Headieone, Stormzy ft BurnaBoy, Ed Sheeran), to me jumping on it and then Diplo hopping in! And Walshy hitting me up to say it’s a banger — next thing Nicki is on it! Been a journey really…” “Oh My Gawd” will supposedly appear on Mr. Eazi’s upcoming EP, “Something Else”, which is expected to arrive next month.
