Global music televisual channel, MTV Base has moved the date of her annual musical ceremony, popularly known as MAMA awards. The 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards ceremony which was scheduled to be held in the Ugandan capital Kampala was moved forward without any concrete reason provided by the producers of the show. The MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) is an annual award event put together by the channel to recognize and honor music artists across Africa who have deserved it.
The Kampala edition was set to be the first-ever live-streamed virtual MTV Africa Awards due to complications arising from the coronavirus pandemic. It was also supposed to be the first time that the awards were to be held in Uganda. The awards, known as the MAMAs, which were first held in 2008, were last held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2016. The other time the awards were held in East Africa was in 2009 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The giant TV company made this updated information known via a tweet they shared on twitter on the 4th of February, 2021:
