Liboi, the Kenyan-born contemporary vocalist and multi-disciplinary artist, has returned with her second album, ‘Safari’. This follows her first EP, 2022’s State Of Being, which was a deeply personal and captivating musical experience, with the aim of exploring the inner workings of self-awareness and freedom.
Liboi is back with another amazing album, ‘Safari’, and this time she’s taking it to the next level. After finding herself in a state of being, she’s embarking on a journey of self-discovery and self-reflection. She’s especially pushing herself to collaborate with her peers in different parts of Africa and to bring together different cultures, generations, and nations. This is all part of her effort to empower Africans to embrace a more all-encompassing Africa and to promote Ubuntu.
Liboi continues to expand her musical repertoire with the release of the Safari EP, which consists of seven tracks, following the release of the two captivating singles “Safari” and “Nengua”.
This event features a variety of featured artists, including Siti Amino from the Zanzibari region, the renowned “Baha’i Female Band” from Dar es Salaam, as well as the renowned Liboi. Additionally, the event brings together a group of friends, including Eric Mascaro and Jason Gras as well as Michele Stella, to share their passion for music and engage in jamming sessions at one another’s homes.
Liboi’s EP, Safari EP, draws on a wide range of artists who have contributed to the piece, which is rooted in the sharing of Africa’s musical diversity. It is a testament to the talent of African collaboration and reinforces the concise message of unity, solidarity, and friendship.
According to her, “The EP is named “Safari” because it evokes the idea of a journey or adventure. Just like a safari in the wild, this EP takes listeners on a musical expedition, exploring various landscapes and emotions through its tracks. It’s a metaphorical journey through sound and emotion, which is why the name “Safari” was chosen to capture that sense of exploration and discovery.”
In “Zuri”, Liboi vocalizes about a romantic relationship in a unique manner. In “Nengua”, she expresses an intense desire to forget her troubles and live in the present moment. In the title track “Safari”, her vocal range and grandeur are at the forefront. Throughout the entire album, the sonic experience and emotional oscillations are exceptional, remarkable, and an emotional expression of cultural appreciation.
