Known for his unique sound and captivating performances, we discuss with Trevi Mula, an incredibly talented singer, songwriter, and afro-fusion rapper raised on the street of Ofankor in Accra, Ghana. Not only is he an outstanding artiste who has found his niche by blending afro-fusion and rap seamlessly, but his ability to connect with listeners on a deep level.
Trevi Mula developed a great interest in music at a very tender age and has been doing what he loves most. Ever since, music become an outlet for him to express every milestone, every growth, and every pain in a world that often values perfection over honesty.
“I was listening to American rapper Lil Wayne and learning his rap flows,” says Mula while speaking about what inspired his music career at a very tender age. His other influences are Sarkodie, Samini, Stonebwoy, and Shatta Wale.
His self-produced debut single, “My Woman,” was released under 2KB Records (A powerhouse that houses ground-breaking talents to explore their skills and create timeless music). He has subsequently released tracks like “On my mind” and “Party. Trevi Mula got critical attention after releasing “On my mind.” His most recent release is a dope tune titled “Agbe Me Nyawo,” meaning “Life Issues.”
Trevi has proven himself an extraordinary songwriter by creating music that has shared life experiences and incredible storytelling. An artiste with endless possibilities ready to break music stereotypes and create heartwarming music.
Describing his creative process when writing new music, Trevi Mula said, “What I do is go to the studio and open my LOGIC recording app and input my beat. First, I start by laying down Melodies and then fix the lyrics.” On his evolving sounds, Staying original is always his main goal, so he doesn’t intend to make any amendments to his sounds.
Aside from his music career, Mula is also a student at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, pursuing a BA in Public Relations. “I have been doing music for the past eight years but professionally for about five years. Aside from music, I am a student. Also, I read a lot in my leisure time, play video games, and spend more time with my family.”
“The major challenge I am faced with as an upcoming artiste, as I stated earlier, are financial constraints and projecting my music to the whole world for people to hear my songs. As an upcoming artist, we all know that one of the main challenges we face is finance, so I’m only praying to God for a sponsorship,” he revealed his struggle in the industry as he promised to drop a significant project soon. “My next project will be another single and probably an EP before the year ends.”
Trevi Mula has set goals for himself to achieve in the next five to ten years. He says some of his desires are winning the BET international artiste, Grammy awards, MoBos, and his country’s most significant music award, the VGMA (Vodafone Ghana Music Awards). He also wishes to collaborate with Nigerian heavyweights like Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Mavin recording artists.
Mula advises other emerging talents to “stay authentic, hardworking, and prayerful.”
