Scarface Jigga has shown his versatility in this body of work and has proven to be ready to conquer the world. His debut project “ELV8” laced with strong, loving, sensual, and powerful lyrical content is an attestation that he is up to something big.
The musical genius whose real name is Chigbo Kennedy Ugochukwu is a talented Nigerian performing artist and songwriter known for his energetic, versatile, and unique vocal delivery. He professionally kickstarted his career in 2020. The artist is currently independent and has amassed a respectable number of streams on DSPs globally.
Scarface Jigga’s dynamic style cannot be overlooked in the Afrofusion scene, which shows he’s clearly carving out his own path with a strong voice. He breaks down his journey in this interview with Lambo Xtra and spoke about his refreshing approach to the genres of Afrobeat and Dancehall.
I have always loved music, the burst of melodies and feels it comes with. Growing up I had this passion for writing songs and matching songs I really liked then (just poetic writings, no productions). Until 2016 at a very low in my life music kept me going, I thought oh yeah. I can actually make music myself and build on that, it didn’t really start up so well but yeah. Music kept me believing there was a light ahead and I can say it’s been a projective journey coming to be Scarface Jigga now.
Of course, I believe one’s environment influences him most. Luckily more Nigerian entertainment is broadly accepted, so yeah it has a high influence on my sound because I want to relate with my origin even when my sounds or inspirations may come from the other side.
The music industry amass amazes me. How the sky can be limitless for all stars to shine really depicted in the music. Wizkid really amazes me with the dynamic he has been throughout the years, Burna Boy sounds especially really inspires me, some of my friends and fans say to me hey! jigga!! You sound like Burna.
After dropping my debut EP “ELV8” last year, I wanted something more for my fans and my career mostly, something I can introduce into the mainstream. So featuring an international artist in Kelvyn Boy would be just perfect having a history in Ghana would be a perfect perch, so we contacted Kelvyn Boy’s team, sent him the beats, he really liked it and made magic with it and I didn’t drop that fire on it. Trust me.
So speaking more on the creative process, we are on verge of shooting a classic music video for the track by XBills. It’s gonna be lit.
Keeping my vibe going, I’m sure thinking seriously about a collaboration with another artist. I’m also in strong contact with a few like Ruger, Jaywillz, Blaqbonez, Victony, and Buju precisely.
I believe I have a new trend and working with these new guys would produce something explosive.
I’m working on dropping my second EP soon “Caesar EP” which On my mind is the first one. Well, that’s an open secret for now. Hopefully, we would have other mainstream artists as I mentioned previously on the EP.
