Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The weekend is upon us again, and we are enjoying the fun of it, whether it be alone or with the family – and to add to the fun, bop artist Kwame Yesu is letting us live it with a single “Sumomi”.

Yesu’s new single arrives at a time when everyone is in need of real partners. The song was written from the perspective of a Black man who’s ready to open his heart again to make a deeper connection with an interest with whom he wants to express his love. it’s the singer’s first official drop in 2022 released via Crux Global/Moves Recordings.

“Sumomi is a ‘Ga‘ (one of the local dialects spoken in Ghana) phrase that directly translates to English as come and love me“. Yesu reveals. “Just as the title states Sumomi is an expression of love, I have found myself in a good space over the last few years surrounded by love and thought it would be great to share that love with the world and my fans.”

With his 2022 opening debut single sets the tone for the singer, we caught up with the newcomer talking about his brand, music-making process, and his latest love anthem, Sumomi.

What’s the message behind “Sumomi”?

“Sumomi” is a ‘Ga’ (one of the local dialects spoken in Ghana) phrase that directly translates to English as ‘come and love me’. Just as the title states SuMoMi is an expression of love, I have found myself in a good space over the last few years surrounded by love and thought it would be great to share that love with the world and my fans.

Who’s Kwame Yesu? And why the name?

Kwame Yesu is a Ghanaian rapper/singer trying to put his homeland on the map through his music and art.
I was born on a Saturday and in Ghana, any boy born on that day is called “Kwame” growing up in a Christian home I was thought to involve the lord through everything I do hence the “Yesu”. And we all know Jesus was black haha!

How would you describe your sound?

I make feel-good music; this part of our world can be overwhelming sometimes and my music provides an escape where I invite listeners into my world where they can be free from their stress and enjoy the moment. My sound is a “bop” it gets you nodding anytime you hear it.

To you what’s the best part of the music-making process?

The best part of the music-making process to me is the recording session because that’s the part I get to express thoughts and experiences through my art to paint pictures with my words. Music is a medium through which I communicate with the world and during the recording part, I feel free as a bird.

Kwame what should we look forward to? What’s next for you?

You should expect more music and also working on my next tape as well so that’s more music coming your way, also catch rocking on bigger stages soon.
