With his recent singles like ‘Undress You,’ executive-produced by PuffyBeatz, KJ Spio has solidified his position as a rising star. Collaborating with Nigerian superstar Oxlade, Spio has crafted an Afrobeats-inspired track that resonates with diverse audiences. “He brought the beat to me and said, ‘J, this record is something your vibe and your energy is suited for.’ Then we started working on it and it came together nicely,” recalls Spio.
As he continues to evolve, Spio hints at more singles and a debut album, aiming to create a cohesive and emotionally rich project. “My immediate plan is to release a lot of singles and also have a few remixes I’m working on to release those remixes that will eventually lead into a full-length album.” With ‘Jealous‘ as his latest offering, KJ Spio invites listeners to join him on a captivating journey, promising to elevate their musical experience.
We caught up with KJ Spio to talk about his experience writing the track, his musical background, and what lies ahead in his owner of career.
Thanks for having me. The Inspiration for the record came from real-life experiences that we all shared and it’s about having relationships with people where you treat each other so good that makes others jealous. So the inspiration was drawn from our own life experiences.
The collaboration was effortless, It started with Loick, You know, he had the concept and the ideas and it built from there.
most in your early years?
I think as far back as I can remember I’ve always had an interest in music. Always looking at the charts, and billboards and just had a general you know interest in the music business itself, and as a music manager, my love for music progressed into now making records and I think my inspiration will say uh!
Sarkodie, He’s a very big inspiration of mine, Jay Z…
I would say my artistic identity would be all about storytelling and feeling. My art is about creating a certain type of mood, a certain type of feeling, and I want people, when they think of me as an artist, to have a feeling or a vibe of good energy.
Jealous is really, umm I would say, a deeply emotional song that we approached from a light perspective and I think music is best enjoyed or music… for I love to make music with purpose music with meaning, or something that would provoke a thought or provoke a certain type of emotion. So hence Jealousy was a perfect message at the time or an emotion to explore.
The main story was about treating each other well to the point that others would want to be treated that way so I think the key message in Jeslous is good interpersonal relationships.
The most valuable lesson I learned in making this record is that we are all connected in many ways more than we know. We have more in common than we think we do.
My immediate plan is to release a lot of singles and also have a few remixes I’m working on to release those remixes that will eventually lead to a full-length album.
For me the most exciting you know thing coming up is the features and the collaboration that I have coming up. I’m very very excited about these collaborations and cannot wait to share with the world you know just umm.. being privileged to work with so many talented and so many well-established artists. So for me, I’m excited about the records I have coming up, and I cannot wait to share.
