|
Listening to more of hip life and hip-hop sounds, Ghanaian and foreign music producers motivated Atown TSB to learn about how instrumentals were made and inspired him to start playing around with the music creation software.
Learning on his own, Atown TSB turned out a great music producer who has worked with Sarkodie, Kweku Smoke, Nana Boroo, Dammy Krane, and other African artists. He was described as one of the promising artists to watch out for in Ghana last year.
The audio engineer and a composer whose real name is Eugene-Clever Nii Odoi Okpoti hails from Accra and currently run Stainless Studios. In this interview, he speaks about his career, challenges, and his upcoming project.

You taught yourself to become a music producer, is it difficult at first?
Yeah, I thought myself to become a music producer, it wasn’t easy when I started but with constant practice and prayers, I was able to get to where I am today.
Do you have any musical background, tell us more about your background?
My Name is Atown TSB and I’m a Music Producer from Ghana.
How long have you been in the music industry?
Well, I don’t have any music background because I didn’t study music in tertiary, but in high school, I used to rap and play beats on desks so after school I started teaching myself how to produce with this software fruity loops, from there I listened to lots of hip-hop songs.
How would you describe your struggle over the years?
Been in the music industry for close to 8 years.
It’s not been easy it’s never been easy because when I started making beats there was no one to help in terms of tuition or anything it was just me and a friend of mine who is also one of the biggest producers in Ghana right now. The struggle for good equipment was a challenge some were too expensive, but in the end, it was all that hard work.
You have worked with acts like Sarkodie, Kweku Smoke, Nana Boroo, Dammy Krane in the past, what were the experiences like?
Okay, with all these big artists, it has been an honor because most of them mean business. The experience has been great, I’ve learned a lot from all these people, business-wise and music-wise.
Last year, Sarkodie described you as one of the promising artists to watch out for, one year after what has changed in your career?
That shout-out changed a whole lot for me. I’ve been working so hard ever since, because it has me on a faster pace, that I need to work harder. I’ve made some major appearances for myself which is a good move after that time.
Tell us about the challenges you face as Ghanaian music producers and mixed engineers?
The challenges are a lot, no systems for producers to get their required Royalties from hits they produce. So most producers sign with foreign corporations. We need that sorted that’s the main challenge in Ghana.

What do you think the future holds for the Afrobeats in the Western world?
I think Afro is already making waves and it’s not stopping anytime in the west.
How can songwriters, producers, and DJs be getting enough credits?
Credits have to do with working systems if we can get the systems working in various countries. Credits will be automatic once a project is made. Thank you.
