Days back, stakeholders and observers of happenings in the entertainment industry were pleasantly surprised to hear that this year’s Headies will be going to the US.
However, as talks continue to mount on social media platforms about the choice of the organizers to shift its base to the US after hosting the show in Nigeria for many years, it seems they are ready to switch things up.
Founded in 2006 with the name Hip-Hop Awards, the awarding society had from its initial show proved instrumental in highlighting new talents that will inform the Nigerian soundscape in the coming years.
With the next rated category hotting up and attracting new music acts who have proven to be worth every ounce of attention they get, attention has been shifted to the nominees in this category.
The Headies had announced that their forthcoming show will include 6 new categories and be held in Atlanta, Georgia in the USA as well as their nominees for their most followed Next-Rated category.
The nominees; Zinoleesky, Ayra Starr, Ruger, and Buju stand a chance of winning the latest version of the Bentley Bentayga.
The competition is rife among these music stars as they continue to push out new contents that rate them above their counterparts.
Previous winners of the award such as Omah-Lay, Rema, Mayorkun, Mr Eazi among others have used the platform to announce their presence and growing dominance on the pop culture in Nigeria and the rest of the world.
With a firm grip on their career, the award has shaped their music and enhanced their market value in no small measures.
With foreign collaborations and endorsement deals that accompanied their career since they scooped the award, one could also see how much growth they have had in terms of music composition and the wide audience their music appeals to.
As Nigeria and the rest of Africa look forward to Headies going to the US for the first time, it remained to be seen what the organizers intend to showcase to the rest of the world and how this will further add value to pop music in Nigeria.
