Gyakie

Ghanaian musical legacy Gyakie recently released the visuals to her track Whine. This comes months after the release of her chart-topping debut 5-track EP, Seed. Undeniably one of the most talented new acts in Ghana right now, Gyakie is not only dominating the Ghanaian industry, but she is quickly becoming one of the top female acts in the continent. After her debut, her track Forever, off the EP, quickly rose to the top of various music charts, including the Billboard Top Triller Global. Forever was also featured on multiple playlists, and it is one of the most played songs in Africa in 2020. The success of Forever led to the making and subsequent release of the remix, which featured Nigerian Afrobeats artist Omah Lay.

The diversity of Seed is another factor that attributed to its success. Gyakie proved how versatile she truly is as she showcased her ability to deliver in different musical genres other than Afrobeats, from Afropop to Dancehall and even soft Hip-Hop.

Since her rise to prominence, Gyakie has been unstoppable. She recently performed at the MTV Africa Day concert and was revealed as one of Spotify’s Inaugural Equal Artists, alongside 35 other female artists from around the world. She recently announced the release of her latest single, which is expected to drop in July.

Whine is the only Dancehall-themed track on the EP. Gyakie demonstrated not just her ability to leap into the genre with ease, but also her ability to write the perfect summertime tune. In the visuals directed by Michael Dzamesi, Gyakie embraced her playful side as she dances among other young women. The video visually interprets the carefree energy the song exudes, and its release is well-timed as summer is about to begin.
