Davido’s “5IVE” is Not the Album of the Year

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Davido’s much-anticipated album 5IVE has finally landed, and while it showcases his signature sound and undeniable starpower, it doesn’t quite reach the heights many expected. Clocking in at 17 tracks, the project leans heavily on Davido’s tried-and-true formula—feel-good Afrobeats, infectious hooks, and an impressive guest lineup—but somehow lacks the magic that defined some of his previous work.

Released under Davido Music Worldwide and licensed exclusively to Sony Music Entertainment UK, 5IVE feels more like a victory lap than a bold new chapter. There are a few standout moments, but the overall album plays it safe. It doesn’t push boundaries or offer the kind of sonic or lyrical evolution that might cement it as the album of the year.

From the production to the performances, everything is polished—but also predictable. It’s a project that will satisfy die-hard fans but leave those hoping for a reinvention slightly underwhelmed. Davido has set the bar high in the past, and unfortunately, 5IVE doesn’t quite clear it.

Rating: 7.5/10
It’s a solid album, but far from Davido’s best work.
