Houston based Cameroonian Alternative HipHop/Soul artist Armstrong Orock, popularly known as ArmstrongWW has dropped his anticipated debut EP ‘Recovery’.
The seven-track project has been anticipated since the artist released singles ‘Superstar You’ and ‘Run!’ earlier.
This soul-infused hip-hop project details the thoughts of a first-generation African struggling to cope with the pressures of the world around him. Usually, when a heavy topic such as this is confronted, sorrow is the intended feeling the listener must understand.
In ‘Recovery’, ArmstrongWW replaces sorrow with the hope that although this world slowly crumbles, there is a way to build a life from the rubble.
The independent artiste also employed the services of creative producers such as Domain Brown, Bowen Thi, and Armstrong himself who crafted the instrumentals for 3 out of 7 songs.
In his usual fashion, ArmstrongWW also engineered the entire EP. from his one-bedroom apartment using the popular DAW FL Studio. This DIY feeling can be felt throughout the entire collection as he had free reign to include harmonies which complimented his introspective lyricism.
He also featured long-time friend and visual artist Luz Castilla to record photos/videos which detail the stories being told in every song on the project.
For one to understand the entirety of ‘Recovery‘, this line spoken from the outro track also named ‘Recovery’ puts listeners in the mind of ArmstrongWW as he concludes his first attempt at building a new world.
“Even on this earth I’m an outcast, time the only thing I’m trying to outlast, now the stakes are high like the outback, I should go to mars for the weekend,” ArmstrongWW declares.
Headlining recent concerts in Petaluma, California, and his current city of Houston, TX, Armstrong is planning on further introducing fans to his cause by letting it seep deeper into his music.
Recent tracks ‘Juice!’ and ‘Butterfly Revolution’ do just that as they criticize the choke hold major corporations have on the lives of people. With a love for sound and a dedication to his craft, how far is ArmstrongWW from turning this free thinking utopia into a reality? Stream the new project below:
