Amaarae’s new album “Fountain Baby” is a mesmerizing blend of R&B, soul, and Afropop that showcases the Ghanaian-American artist’s (born in the Bronx, raised in Atlanta and Accra) unique voice and luxurious style. Released via Interscope Records on June 9, 2023, the album features 14 tracks that explore themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery.
From the opening track “All My Love” to the closing song “Come Home to God,” Amaarae’s vocals are rich and emotive, conveying a range of emotions with ease. The production on the album is equally impressive, with lush instrumentation and atmospheric beats that create a dreamy, otherworldly vibe.
One standout track on the album is “Reckless and Sweet,” the track which happens to be the project lead single is a blend of R&B, pop, and alté and sees her she sings about a doxy, “The thought of me spendin’, gives you goosebumps/Now lie to me, tell me I’m wrong”. Amaarae’s lyrics are introspective and relatable, making the song stand out on the album.
Another highlight is “Come Home to God,” the album-closing track. The song is about how her girl who after working as a pole dancer comes back home to “Alimony Ama” (Amaarae’s nickname) referred to as a god in the lyrics.
