We just rounded off the first half of the year and truly, it was made a very memorable one. One thing of course that made it so significant for most of us, was the unflawed servings of musical hits from our African musical Dexters. The quality is now seen in the musical industry only seems to get better and better each day. 2021 has been a very fruitful year already. During the second quarter of the year, we witnessed the album release of one of our top-rated Nigerian stars – Olamide Badoo, with his “Uy Scuti” album, which has been doing so well already, dishing out several hits like “Jailer” and “Rock”.
In the month of June, one of the biggest names from Africa made a significant change in his brand by changing his name from WizKid to Bigwiz. The months of May and June have been really full and entertaining. We’ve seen debuts released, albums announced, brand names changed, and a whole lot more beautiful contents released. In celebrating the amazing contents our artistes have released to our pleasure, Lambo Xtra decided to make a compilation of the best ten songs released between May, June and July. In no particular order, these are your top ten best songs since May till date.
“Omo” by Reminisce Feat. Olamide
“Omo” was released ahead of the Alaga Ibile’s newest album dubbed “El Hadj” set to be released soon – no official date yet. In this Olamide assisted track, Reminisce was unreserved in making known the things that he has been up to since the release of his last album. Olamide spiced things up as he also took a fair share of the revelations made in the song. The song has so far made it to top countdowns, there is no telling the other feats the song would achieve.
“Celebrate Me” by Patoranking
After very long anticipation created online by the “Alubarika” crooner, sharing a snippet of the song online, the talented singer finally made a release of the song. The singer is indeed well known for creating back to back hits. This one is no exception. The song simply reflects the need for us to celebrate our heroes while they’re still alive, not waiting until they’re dead. “Celebrate Me” is a celebration of accolades.
“Soundgasm” by Rema
Few weeks ago, it was generally agreed that Mavins’ young star did a refurbishing on his brand. This reformation has not only been seen in his new dress mode but also in his sound and delivery. Just recently, the young star unveiled his new tune and second this year – “Soungasm”. This jam since it’s release has been bursting the airwaves and experiencing significant progress in terms of clout chasing. The song started a social media challenge called #Grapechallenge.
“Rain” by Yemi Alade ft Mzansi Youth Choir
Quick question – “can we ever get enough of Yemi Alade? I think not.” Yemi has indeed been very busy with her craft and she has amazingly not used her involvement in the prestigious The Voice Nigeria™ as a permissible excuse to slow down. Here, she serves us with good African music, featuring the South African Mzansi Youth Choir. If you haven’t listened to it, do well to make sure that you do. She attaches a befitting video to the offering as well.
“Whine” by Gyakie
Ever since the Nigerian/Ghanian singer came through with her “Forever” jam, it’s been a stream of record-breaking feats. Gyakie yet again came through with another speaker bursting hit – “Whine”. She didn’t only treat her fans to the listening pleasure of this vibe but also treated them to a visual show. The singer and songwriter released this video sometime in June. It is said that the singer is doing well in filling in the shoes of American pop singer, Rihanna. Her fanbase keeps growing by the day as the video for “whine” has amassed almost a million views on YouTube just in two weeks of its official release.
“Rock” by Olamide
Nigerian superstar, Olamide – YBNL boss, released a very potential hit sometime in March and he accompanied it with a gleeful video. The track was the first to be featured from his expletive album – “Uy Scuti, ” released earlier this year. “Rock” is a calm and yet very groovy piece with every tendency to be placed on the repeat chain. Olamide stays true to his peculiar sound, idolizing his love attraction.
“Lifestyle” by Fireboy
Trending Nigerian singer and songwriter, Fireboy DML, shared the lavish video of “Lifestyle”, a resonance of his Apollo album. The video sees the vocal powerhouse get into some deep mess as a result of his carefree attitude. This is a song that should make it to your playlist.
“All My Life” by MI Abaga Feat. Oxlade
One of Africa’s finest rappers, MI Abaga comes through on this track as he enlists sound boy, Oxlade and christens it “All My Life”. The song is a smash hit thanks to its electrifying beat, Oxlade’s verse which is enough to hook listeners and M.I’s rap verses are simply captivating.
“Pepe” by L.A.X Feat. Davido
Pepe is an uptempo groovy offering currently rocking the airwaves. L.A.X taps DMW boss, Davido on this one, as they join forces in ensuring the attention of a love interest. Davido does well in adding the usual spice in this piece. The track has great potentialities, making it a top contender for this list.
“So Cold” by Bella Shmurda Feat. Popcaan
It has truly been a great year for Bella – releasing radio-accepted songs back to back. It can be said that there are no bad songs with the Dagbana himself. On this track, Bella takes a daring step by featuring OVO Record Jamaican singer, Popcaan who significantly signed off his very signature on the song. “So Cold” makes it to our top ten list.
